Privacy Policy

Learn how we use mathematical guarantees to protect your financial sovereignty.

1. Introduction: Privacy by Design

Unlike traditional financial institutions, FediCash is built on the Fedimint Protocol. We utilize Chaumian Blind Signatures and Threshold Cryptography to ensure that we cannot see your individual transactions, your history, or your destination of funds. Our policy is simple: We cannot sell what we cannot see.

2. Information We Do Collect

As a registered Money Services Business (MSB), we are required by the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) to collect certain "On-boarding Data" to prevent illicit activity:

  • Identity Information: Full name, date of birth, and government-issued ID (collected via our secure encrypted portal).
  • Contact Information: Email address or phone number for account recovery and critical security alerts.
  • Device Data: IP addresses and basic browser metadata (logged temporarily for fraud prevention and DDoS protection).

3. Information We Cannot Collect (The Fedimint Guarantee)

Due to the mathematical constraints of the Fedimint protocol, the following data is never accessible to the Federation Guardians:

  • Transaction Details: We cannot see who you are paying or who is paying you.
  • Account Balances: While we know the total amount of Bitcoin in the vault, we cannot see the specific balance held by any individual user.
  • Spending Habits: Your e-cash notes are "blinded," meaning they are cryptographically disconnected from your identity once issued.

4. How We Use Your Data

  • Compliance: To satisfy FinCEN and IRS requirements regarding "Know Your Customer" (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws.
  • Security: To monitor for suspicious login patterns and protect the Federation from external attacks.
  • Communication: To notify you of critical protocol upgrades or "Guardian" transitions.

5. Data Retention & Sharing

  • Retention: We retain Identity Information for five (5) years after account closure, as mandated by federal record-keeping laws.
  • Third Parties: We do not sell your data. We only share information with law enforcement if presented with a valid subpoena, warrant, or as required by BSA mandatory reporting (e.g., Suspicious Activity Reports).

Note: Because we cannot see your transactions, we are physically unable to provide transaction histories to any third party.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the Identity Information we hold about you.
  • Erasure: Request the deletion of your on-boarding data (subject to the 5-year federal retention limit).
  • Withdrawal: At any time, you may "settle" your e-cash for Bitcoin and leave the Federation.
